VonThun's Country Farm Market opened in 1986. The little farm market, housed in a barn, was the only outlet for fresh fruits and vegetables that were grown on the farm.
As the years passed, the market was expanded and redesigned. Although Jersey Fresh, homegrown fruits and vegetables are still sold in the farm market, the farm has diversified, and the farm market has become the "home base" for all sales (both retail and wholesale), pick your own, festivals, tours, and other farm activities.
Although we pride ourselves in our homegrown sweet corn
and Jersey tomatoes, there are dozens of other fruits and vegetables that we grow and sell in the farm market! Our Homegrown Produce Availability Chart outlines approximate availabilities of the crops we grow.
Early in the spring, we plant sweet corn under plastic. The plastic protects the seeds
and seedlings from cold and frost during their early stages while their growth is still young and tender. The plastic also warms the soil, helping the plants to grow at a quicker rate. Our goal through this process, is to have homegrown sweet corn in early July. Our homegrown sweet corn is picked fresh EACH morning, which enables you to have the FRESHEST corn around!!
Other produce is available in the market as the crop ripens and matures. Peaches come from a local grower, and our orchard provides us with apples throughout the fall! Also available in the farm market are our very own VonThun Farms jams and jellies and Pennsylvania Dutch old fashioned candy.
In the fall, the farm market is full of all your fall decorating needs (indian corn, scarecrows, straw, gourds, etc.) and numerous "tools" needed to help design that perfect jack-o-lantern (pumpkin saws and knives, stencils, scoops, stickers, carving kits, etc.)
Stop by this season with the kids to visit with the farm animals.......and be sure to stop in the market for some of the finest Jersey sweet corn and homegrown fresh produce!
Although the greenhouses open in late April, VonThun's Country Farm Market is open June through October.....Weekdays 10 am to 6:30 pm and Weekends 9 am to 6 pm.
This chart outlines the approximate start of availability. Some crops have a short season, most crops are available through early September. ALL crops are weather dependent....cooler weather tends to delay crops, while warmer weather tends to help quicken the crop ripening process. Call for availability!
