Although the weather may suggest an early harvest, our first U-pick crop is strawberries, usually harvested in mid-May. Strawberry season is short, is always weather dependent, and may greatly vary. Traditionally the season lasts until early to mid-June.
Pick your own peas are always abundant on the farm. Although pea season tends to last just a few weeks, it too can be weather dependent. Warmer spring temperatures will tend to shorten the season, whereas cooler temperatures may help to lengthen it. Pea season usually begins as the strawberries come to an end, usually in early June. Both pod and sugar snap peas are available for pick your own as well as already picked in our farm market. Pod peas are the traditional pea that must be shelled to be eaten. With sugar snap peas, the peas are eaten as well as the pod.
Pick your own raspberries signal the coming of summer. Red raspberries are usually available beginning mid-July and last throughout the summer. Blackberries are most abundant in early-August and tend to last just a few weeks.
Although we do not usually offer all of our crops for pick-your-own, occasionally we do have a field close by that we may choose to offer for picking. Please call for availabilities.
Our biggest pick your own season arrives in early October with pick your own pumpkins, which is the busiest time on the farm. Families gather on weekends to search for that perfect pumpkin and take part in our other various fun-filled activities. You can take a hayride to the pick your own pumpkin field on the weekends or choose your pumpkin from a pick your own field near the farm market.
Pick Your Own apple orchard will be open in the fall as the apples become plentiful. We picked our first apple crop in the fall of 2006. The crop was outstanding that year, and we hope this year will yield us the same success. Be sure to come out early in the season for a great selection! Our apple varieties include Golden Delicious, Mutsu, Autumn Gala, Cameo, Nittany, Suncrisp, and Snapp Stayman. Some varieties may be ready for picking in early September, so please call for availability.
